Question: Would you voluntarily join the army to get a free education or pay for student loans if you were poor?

Many people consider the scheme of joining the army to be a dangerous road. You may go to college with no debt or no tuition but your debt to the military and the country is fighting and possibly dieing.

Depending on your contract and what you wanted to do, it was a good deal before the invasion of Iraq and Bush's handling of the military. I took the offer before I realized what Bush was up to. Right now though, wild horses couldn't get me to sign again to deal with the ass raping the military is going through right now.

Joining the military voluntarily is not only a patriotic duty for your country but also a wise career path, however, you need to score high on your asvap so you can pick the job to gain skills outside the military. I have two sons. One scored high and is now in the air force with space command his college education is paid for and when he leaves the air force in 8 years his rank will be no less than captain. The other son scored low and is in the marines at boot camp right now - his career path is infantry so pray for him.

I'd rather suffer through my education with loans than join the army. My life is more worth it.
