Why don't people keep anything private anymore?

Question: Why don't people keep anything private anymore?

(Posted by: nitwig//0 on 2010-07-24 15:01:47)

Maybe I come from the old school but does anyone keep things to themselves anymore. From sex tapes to tell- all books detailing the most personal of details to people revealing their most intimate thoughts on Facebook (and I like facebook) it seems @Mr Warrior- Who said I was speaking for ALL people? I just talking about in general.

Many of us come from the old school but still contribute to Y!A and Facebook. Perhaps we all have two faces. We are sincerely shocked by the outpouring of personal thoughts yet at heart enjoy "mild " anonymous voyeurism as on this site.

I honestly don't know why they want everything blabbed about. It is amazing that people do something like sex tapes and then moan and groan and can't figure out how it got out. I come from the old school too and if you don't want something made public, keep it to yourself.

Apparently, people have always been like this...they just didn't have the technology with which to accommodate their proclivity towards exposing themselves. Tell-all books have been always been around, though. I think ALL of it is just a way to make a quick buck...except for FB, though....no money in that...just a way to satisfy attention-craving. My grandfather used to say: "If it aint for sale, don't put it in the window ".

I think it's just something to talk about, something to socialize about and have drama or something consistently going on with people in their lives. I don't like having my life online or coming out of the mouths of other peoples. But there are alot of people who don't mind and like being the talk of the town or letting the whole world/ or neighborhood know what they are up to ... I think it just comes down to difference in opinions and views.

It's the Oprah effect. Oprah started the "confessional " culture in our society, where people publicly tell all, good and bad. Also, the ease of communication today combined with liberal attitudes, make things easier and more acceptable to share. Of course, everyone has different comfort levels of privacy. If you don't want to share, then don't. Hope this helps.
