Common law in Israel even today says that if you're hungry, you can pick from a tree and eat. You can't denude the tree, but you can eat what you need. The various Levitical laws make that pretty clear. |

Can't think of a single scripture that says Jesus tried to steal a fig from a tree. did you just make that up so you would have a question? |

Even worse, he puts a curse on the fig tree for some damn reason. It's one of the few stories of Jesus getting pissed off. |

I don't know if libertarians find it reprehensible or not. lol In the story, the tree was a picture of “false advertising,” having leaves, but no figs. Ordinarily, this is not the case with these fig trees, which normally do not have leaves without also having figs. It is a story which teaches a lesson. The tree is cursed for its pretense of leaves, not for its lack of fruit; like Israel, it has the outward form but no fruit. In this picture, Jesus warned Israel - and us - of God’s displeasure when we have the appearance of fruit, but not the fruit itself. |
