Atheists: why do you demand that we keep our religion private?

Question: Atheists: why do you demand that we keep our religion private?

Jesus commanded us preach to as many people as possible and to try and stop the unrighteousness in society. how can we do this by keeping our religion private?

Because they believe freedom of speech only extends to them rather than understand real freedom gives all the right not to listen as well. They do exactly what they have a problem with others for doing.

Act out your faith through works, not by your fiery tongue.

We wont believe in it and never will. You are causing hate and discomfort

I would think god would want his followers to find him willingly not to be scared into it by threats of hell, or badgered into it by repetition.

Yeah well, then go preach to a tree. i don't wanna hear it.

No one is demanding that you keep it private. Personally I just don't want religious influence in law making. Nor do I want my children having to deal with it in a public school.

Well...if you're going to be jerks about it stop with the persecution complex when you get a negative reaction back.

The best way to show people the love of God is by acting it out- not blasting it in their faces. As a Christian, I am ashamed of people who try to "recruit " for God by talking down to people, calling them evil sinners or make people feel ashamed. GET A CLUE

You're trying to take over our schools, demean science and women and we're suppose to stand down?

You can't keep your religion private. And being a prophet of God doesn't mean it's a religion- unless your Catholic. Read your bible, and if people question, answer by scripture, with God's word. That's what God wanted, by my thoughts anyways.

Ignorance shouldn't be spread...its comparable to a disease, would you spread a disease if someone told you to do so?

I believe in God but... Religion starts war A lot of people die because of it I don't want people to die.

Posted by: Torukmakto on 2010-02-21, 12:53:17

On the contrary I want to hear it so I can laugh at you lol

I think it's for the same reason that religious people don't like us trying to convince them that god doesn't exist. I don't care what anybody believes personally, but when someone tries to convert me, I will listen and present my point of view. The only problem is when I try to present my point of view, the religious person generally gets defensive and contentious. So, it's just easier if we ask religious people to keep their religion private. You can tell people not to kill each other without relying on getting your authority from a dead guy called Jesus.

As long as you respect other people's rights then go ahead.

Who wants religion pushed on them really? you don't see atheists pushing their views on Christians.

Posted by: Nyu on 2010-02-21, 12:54:28

Since when did me myself say that? I don't care about your religion as long as you don't try forcing things onto me or harming me, or others.

You are mistaken. Jesus did not command you to preach to as many as possible, nor did he say to stop the unrighteousness in society. Rather, Jesus said to "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's. " Jesus said plainly that "My kingdom is not of this world. " Your business is not to set up God's kingdom on earth. Christianity is an other-worldly religion that has often been perverted by the likes of Jerry Falwell. Following the example of Jesus, clothe the naked, feed the hungry, minister to the sick, and shelter the homeless. But don't imagine that your Christian duty is to stop unrighteousness in society. If you want to establish righteousness on earth, you've got the wrong religion. Become a Muslim. Islam seeks to establish righteousness.
