It is a translation of the Latin maxim:' De gustibus non est disputandum' which means that personal taste is something very subjective and there is no objective way to solve a disagreement about such matters.

It means that everyone has their own opinions and different tastes. If you were arguing with someone over, let's say, a meal. You thought it was nice but your friend thought it was horrible. There would be no way to resolve the argument because "there is no accounting for taste " (you can't blame anyone because your tastes differ). Hope this cleared it up. xxx
